With the rapid increasing rate of worldly population, it is estimated that within next 30 years from now, the population will increase to 3 billion more as per the current ratio. With this increasing ratio is obvious that the overall demand for food and agriculture will also get increased so agriculturalists and producers need to get the facts straight and increase their efforts accordingly to meet the expected results within the right time.
Conventional agriculture is highly effected by water shortage all around the world. According to the reports, in next fifty years there will be no water left on earth if they doesn’t maintain it well or if they don’t cope with it effectively. Water is an essential need of every human being to survive and people are still facing scarcity which makes their lives miserable. Additionally, for well-conditioned farming water is primary factor, not just water but adequate amount of water is needed but unfortunately it is in the form of glaciers, lakes and ponds but no one is paying attention towards making it useful.
Increased water shortage in western countries:
In counties like US and England where there was no shortage of water ever before but now they are also getting into this trouble which is an alarming situation for sure. In 2020, there was half of rainfall compare to usual monsoon spell or prediction of weather experts due to which they were not able to store enough water for usage. First time in history, they met this scarcity which was surely disturbing.
Growing salt water vegetables:
Sea vegetables can be grown in less fertile and flooded land which seems like damaged and worthless. These lands are ideal to grow salt vegetables which are not only good for health but you can save maximum cost as its growth doesn’t take much expenses or attention. These plants are called semi-desert plants and these are also be used for medicine making and other useful purposes.
Importance:
These plants are also valuable to take as a raw material, you can export it to other countries too for betterment of economy. As these vegetables and fruits are not found anywhere in shops, restaurants and markets due to less awareness and public acceptance because it doesn’t taste good and people don’t usually prefer eating or having it. They are not so famous in those areas nor they are demanding vegetables which people prefer as an alternative. But back in 2016, samphire was great in demand because of heavy marketing and advertising. Altogether, these salt vegetables can be sold out in good rates so that farmers can earn a handsome amount by selling it as it is suitable for green perspective and also holds a great worth with respect to economy.
Now, people of Europe are getting aware of it and they are getting towards it to find the maximum benefits. For example, make up products, pharma products, and raw material, all these things can generate unlimited profit with less investment and cost.
Salt salinization issue:
There are several kinds of crops and vegetables that are produced in salt water, fresh water and some are a combination of both. Salt salinization is a global issue which need to be addressed before it’s too late. Every crops has a differing density and pace of growth with a specific quantity of salt water required to get better growth. The problem arises when the flood of this salt water effect the fertility of land where farmers used to do farming and where usual crops are being grown and harvested. This whole process than badly influence the fertility and overall growth which than result into major loss. There are several attempts being made to get over this problem by creating any other alternative that prevents fertile land getting barren.
Salt tolerating vegetables:
Scientists experimented with different fruits and vegetables to evaluate how much salt they can bare and what’s their limit of adjusting salt within them. Different vegetables and fruits such as onion, carrot, beetroot, potato, cabbage, barely, and sugar with many other are much capable to handle high density of salt within it’s roots which is great for farmers that they don’t need to worry any more about damage of crop due to saltwater.
Affects of climatic change:
Until now the professionals and agriculturalists find it difficult to experiment any salt mediocre in agriculture system. Although they have advanced and moderate environmental friendly technology that can be suitable for growing any crop but due to the risk of hazardous consequences they are not risking any situation at all. Another argument says that this fear must be out of everyone’s mind as this method can be great for economic development and agriculture sector so it must be taken into consideration.
Scottish farmers are aware of this fact that people are less interested in salt water farming and vegetables and also they didn’t faced enough consequences of that damage unlike other countries so they can’t avoid it certainly. In some areas of the world, it was excessively damaging and negatively impactful but due to it’s profitable nature and unique characteristics, Scottish farmers are working to make it better and in-demand product.
But as per the climatic changes and several factors that influenced on climatic conditions, Europe needs to decide as per these factors to avoid any failure to agricultural development which will be faced by whole world. Last but not the least, all these factors and conditions taught us to think out of the box and find different worthwhile ideas that can provide maximum profit to the industry. Either it is salt water vegetables and fruits, either it is making energy from other renewables, either it is getting crops tested for salt tolerating density to know whether they can effectively grow in salt water or not? If yes then how much limit each crop has? All these questions can be answered but the actual point is to finding out options.
